BENEFITING: Somaly Mam Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2014
Angels At 30,000 ft is a group of flight attendants from various airlines (Delta, Southwest, Frontier, Horizon, United and more..) seeking donations to help victims of human trafficking, or modern day slavery
Our goal is to raise $5000 in the first 3 months of 2014. We will be donating 100% of the funds to The Somaly Mam Foundation in Cambodia.
The Somaly Mam Foundation (SMF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the eradication of sex slavery and the empowerment of its survivors, led by the vision and life's work of Cambodian survivor and activist Somaly Mam. Founded in 2007, the organization's multilateral approach helps victims to escape their plight, empowers survivors with economic independence and as part of the solution, and engages governments, corporations, and individuals in the fight.
Just how much can you make a difference? here's the breakdown:
$25: the cost of one month of materials to help the survivor to learn sewing, hairdressing, weaving, computer training, English, life skills, small business management and agriculture
$30: the cost of a medical exam for a woman or girl who has been exploited in the sex trade
$54: the cost per month to provide one woman or girl with three nutritious meals per day in the shelter
$135: covers all services and provisions for one survivor for one month, including food, accommodations, education and training, hygiene kits, clothing and recreational activities
$400: the cost of annual tuition for a survivor attending university
$1200: covers a 'start-up' kit with everything a woman needs to start her own small business in the reintegration process, plus follow up support
$3000: the approximate cost that it takes to one woman or child through the journey - from rescue to recovery, education, and reintegration with new economic opportunities, dignity and hope.
