We were able to get the device -- Alessandro is using it brilliantly! Now on to speech therapy and eventual lease of the machine! See More

EVENT DATE May 22, 2014

Imagine you can't speak. and your mouth and tongue don't move together to produce sounds and words clearly, and your breath can't come out, either. Like trying to talk underwater. That's what it's like for young Alessandro, who has so much to say but no way to say it so others can understand him. He's been suffering for 12 long years, but now we've found him a speech communication device that he loves and that can talk for him -- even more, it can help teach him speech and language, like how to form a sentence.  Because he also suffers from autism, auditory processing and low muscle tone, this is the best device for him according to the experts at his hospital center. Alessandro is an accomplished artist, and loves to swim -- he "talks" to dolphins through hand signals, just as he has to use signals or pictures to talk to people.  But with this new device, an Accent 1000 (see it here: and additional speech therapy to help him learn to use it, then more people and other kids would finally be able to understand him!  He could make friends and use the device to make jokes with them and share stories! The insurance company won't fund it, the school district won't fund it, either -- it's expensive, but it is so worth it for Alessandro. It's a once in a life time purchase that will greatly improve young Alessandro's quality of life. Please, I need your help to purchase this device for Alessandro. His big brother and I want to have a conversation with Alessandro, and we want to know want he needs, what he likes and what will make him happy. Please be an "Angel for Alessandro" and help us purchase this life changing device so Alessandro can smile and "talk" to everyone!
