Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic (DCDR) is a U.S. 501 c 3 nonprofit that is working hard to help improve the health and well-being of the animals on the island. In a third world country like the D.R., the animals often suffer the most and their is an immense need for help among the animals living on the streets. DCDR has worked tirelessly to help the animals on the north coast of the island through free spay/neuter clinics (1000+ animals operated on in 2015), adopting animals off the street to the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Dominican Republic (400+ adoptions in 2015). We also provide funding for emergency care for street animals and animals owned by Dominicans and Haitians who cannot afford to bring their animals to a vet. Finally we also provide flea, tick, and parasite medicines to over 2,000 animals every month to prevent disease and educate the Dominican and Haitians on the proper care of their pets. We are now ready to take the next step and develop a first of its kind animal sanctuary on the island. We have been given 15 acres of land and have worked with an architect and local builder who have donated their time and talent to develop a building that is unique in its design and what we hope is a model for other sanctuaries throughout the Caribbean. Special design features have been incorporated to account for the climate of the island and the resources readily available for construction on the island. Rain collection has even been incorporated into the design to make the building as eco-friendly as possible. We ask that you help us build this first of its kind building so we can help even more street animals in the Dominican Republic. By helping us build this first building you will also be helping us to build a model that we hope to duplicate on our land and then throughout the Caribbean.
