Again, I can't thank everyone enough for the generosity and love that you are showing for the animals! I'm having some internet issues so I'm See More

THE STORY:

I have already spent 12 days deployed with a national animal response organization. With the help of colleagues I helped to save many animals during that deployment. Unfortunately, at that time, the local government would not let us establish a temporary emergency shelter to house the 1000's of animals that were alone and in peril. Many of these animals were already sick and injured yet unless they were near death we could not bring them in for treatment and safety. Now the Humane Society of Louisiana along with Brother Wolf Animal Rescue has finally been allowed to establish a large temporary animal shelter in Amite, LA. Now we can finally rescue the animals that have fought to survive by first swimming through the torrential floodwaters and then by trying to survive with no sources of food or fresh water. Many people are of the opinion that cats can fend for themselves outdoors and under normal circumstances this might be partially true. But even though cats are hunters there is nothing left for them to hunt. There are no rodents, birds or even small wildlife as they were all either killed in the floodwaters or have migrated to other areas for their own survival. We finally have the ability to help these animals by bringing them into the temporary shelter where they can receive food, medical care and a safe place to sleep until they can either be reunited with owners or adopted out to loving homes. The problem now is that there are no more funds to support the volunteers who must travel from across the country to help these animals. The residents of the flood areas are not yet capable of caring for these animals as they themselves are still homeless and without transportation. I am a lifetime animal rescuer with extensive training and disaster response experience. I have the ability to take the time away from work and from my home to go back to Louisiana to do the work that is my passion. Helping animals and people. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to pay for the necessary travel expenses. Ideally I would like to rent a cargo van for at least two weeks. That would give me the ability to transport needed supplies from Kentucky to Louisiana, transport supplies and animals during field operations and possibly transport animals out of Louisiana and to a partnering rescue organization when I finally leave Louisiana. The other option would be to fly to either New Orleans or Baton Rouge and then rent a vehicle if one can be found. I'm willing to sleep in a cargo van most of the time if I can just get an occasional couch or bed and a hot shower. I spent over four months rescuing animals after Katrina so I am used to roughing it. Some of my qualifications include: Red Star Responder, American Humane Association National Veterinary Response Team Veterinary Medical Assistance Team Certified in both Large and Small Animal Technical Rescue Certified in Swift Water Rescue Certified in Rope Rescue Certified Level 1 Firefighter in Kentucky Equine Veterinary Technician Experienced in TNR Specialize in cats and horses I would be happy to provide references and proof of qualifications and experience upon request. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am also open to the gift of frequent flyer miles to get me to and from Louisiana, gift cards for fuel, motel gift cards, etc. Anything that will help me to help the animals in need. If we can fund this trip there will be at least one other equally trained colleague accompanying me. ** If I am unable to raise enough to make the trip I will either return your money or donate it to Brother Wolf or Humane Society of Louisiana. The choice is yours! margogresham@gmail.com
