BENEFITING: The Anna Schindler Foundation
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: Your Journey Your Cause 2017
My name is Joe Schindler, a husband, father of eight and a professional firefighter. I am competing in the CDA IM 70.3 on June 25th,2017 for a special cause that is near and dear to my heart. On race day, almost exactly seven years ago, I lost my 7 year old daughter, Anna, to liver cancer. She is the namesake of the Anna Schindler Foundation.
As a fireman, my job is to help others. As a father, I do all I can for my children. When Anna was diagnosed, I was helpless to do anything about the situation. As a father, I am supposed to make everything better and protect my child. At the time, my body and soul screamed to take action; I was forced to relinquish this action to doctors, surgeons, nurses, oncologists and countless others. I am extremely thankful for all the help and loving care they provided for Anna, but in the end, like many other children with childhood cancer, a cure was not to be. Anna passed away on June 29th, 2010, two days after her 7th birthday.
My experience as a parent of a child with cancer has motivated me to give forward and help other families on their childhood cancer journey. I am dedicating my training and race to Anna and all the children battling this disease. Please consider making a donation to help me reach my goal. Together we can give assistance to other families in the fight for their child's life. Thank you!
