BENEFITING: American Red Cross
This past week Hurricane Sandy has devastated the New York and New Jersey areas.
As some of you may know, I absolutely love this city that I live in, as well as the beautiful harbor town out on Long Island where I grew up. It is devastating to see the aftermath of the storm and the wake of destruction left behind. It is hard to see the places that I have so many fond memories of, now submerged in water, battered, and destroyed.
What's more frightening is the future safety and well being of people now left homeless, and those currently without heat and electricity as the November temperatures start to drop. As a New York City employee, I have been volunteering at my local hurricane evacuation shelter since Monday and at this point, it appears that the need is far out pacing the aid that we can provide, and we are one of the "nicer" shelters around.
Therefore, I have decided to start this fundraising page, in the hopes that we all can help speed up the recovery process, and perhaps help mitigate some of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Over the past four months I have been training to run the Philadelphia Marathon on November 18th. It will be my first marathon, and my only objective was to try to cross the finish line in once piece. My focus had been on training, not fundraising... but now, I would like to change that.
On Sunday November 18th I am dedicating my race, all 26.2 miles to the recovery efforts, and hope that the proceeds from this little fundraiser will help send help to those who have critical needs at this time.
Thank you all.
