Dear friends and family,
Over the summer of 2014, I had the amazing opportunity to spend 10 days in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip with Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. I was incredibly excited for the trip, but learned and gained so much more than I thought I would. Prior to the trip, I was very ill. I spent a month in bed when I was diagnosed with mononucleosis. My parents and I weren't sure if I was going to be able to go, so when I was cleared by the doctors and feeling much better, I knew God really wanted me to go so I could help the people of the Dominican Republic and they could help me.
While I was there, time flew. I wasn’t constantly checking my phone to check the time or see if anyone had liked my latest Instagram picture. I was truly invested in the present for the first time in a long time, and it was so refreshing. Everything from building a church to playing with local children, working in a medical clinic to worshipping with the people of the village intrigued me in ways I had never experienced. One of my favorite memories from the trip was the chance I got to speak at a worship service. I spent the whole day prior trying to come up with the perfect words to say that would truly convey the way these people had affected me. I remember shaking because I was so nervous, something that doesn’t generally happen to me when I have to speak to groups of people. Once I was up there, I felt like I knew exactly what to say, and I really felt God in that tiny, hot church with us. It was a life-changing experience that I can recall in vivid detail and know I will never forget.
When I came home from the trip and all I could think about was how badly I wanted to go back, I knew I had to someday. Little did I know that the opportunity would come sooner rather than later. Getting to go back to the Dominican Republic this summer is truly a blessing for me. I grew so much as a person and in my faith on that trip that being able to go back and give my time and resources to others makes me incredibly happy and grateful. Last summer, my parents were very gracious and paid for the trip for me. However, this summer, I must pay for it myself. As a college student, money is a little tight, so an amazing member of my church donated enough Delta Skymiles to buy my plane ticket for me. The rest of the trip I need to pay for. It would be such a huge help and honor to receive anything at all that you may be able to donate to my cause. This trip really means the world to me because I know exactly how much the people of the Dominican Republic and I will all benefit from my presence and time. My trip is costing around $1,100, which will cover my in country expenses as well as building materials and other items that will benefit the people we are helping. Every little bit helps, and your donations are tax deductible. To donate with a credit card, please use the link below. You can also send a check payable to Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church (or PHPC) to the following address, just please put my name and “Youth DR Trip” in the memo:

Thank you so much for anything you are able to give and for helping me share the love and light of Christ.
