Dear all, I'm writing with …
Dear all,

I'm writing with a few final updates before I hit the pavement tomorrow. Thanks to all of you - old friends and new - for your generosity. I feel lucky to be part of such a dynamic and compassionate community. You guys rock.

Tonight: My team was featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. Check it out - I haven't seen it, but I heard they got footage of me doing something embarrassing (probably just running). Maybe I should get a television...

The segment will be available here starting tomorrow: http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news

Tomorrow: At 11:25 a.m., around the time the elite runners are hitting the finish line, I'll set out from Hopkinton with the rest of my team. If you want to track me, my number is 31916, and I'm listed on the BAA website as Julia S. Marion (yes, that's my legal name.) You can download the BAA tracking app to your phone, or text my number to 345678 to receive text updates.

We've raised over $10,000 so far, and are reaching for $15,000 by the end of May. My team has raised over $750,000 to support those facing long term medical costs in the wake of last April's tragedy. Your donations are making a difference - many of the friends I've met in training this spring will run the marathon tomorrow due in large part to support from the One Fund.

I'll be running with a full heart, and I'm eternally grateful to each of you.

Very best,

Summer

Dear friends and family, A …
Dear friends and family,

A week from tomorrow, I'll wake up at zero dark thirty (really, pre-4 a.m.) to begin the trek out to Hopkinton, and the starting line of the Boston Marathon. Thanks to all of you, we've already raised over $9,100 for the One Fund in connection with my run. As a whole, our team has raised nearly $600,000.

Before our team run yesterday, we donned our new, and very orange, team singlets (I updated my Crowdrise profile picture to give you a sneak peek) and joined hundreds of Bostonians at the finish line of the race to take part in a Sports Illustrated cover photo shoot. The turnout was incredible. I doubt we're at all visible, but if you notice and orange blob in the far right of the cover photo for the April 16 issue, that's us!

As we stood in the cold waiting for the photographer, people mingled. Women handed out blue and yellow scarves, hand knitted and crocheted by Massachusetts residents, to all of the runners. Firefighters from the nearby Boylston Street station, who recently suffered a new tragedy, losing two of of their own in a nine-alarm blaze last month, joined the throngs. Employees of Marathon Sports, some of whom took it upon themselves to create our team after their finish line store became a triage unit last April, congregated with the rest of us. Shop owners came out of their stores. Families drove in from the suburbs. Kids climbed trees. Adults climbed trees. And like that day nearly a year ago, police officers lined the streets. This time, they were smiling and waving at the camera.

I knew many of the faces around me. Had it not been for the events of last April, I would never have met these people, nor would I have seen the dynamic and unexpected ways in which individuals within a community can support one another. Yesterday, we were all runners, even those who had never pounded the pavement. We were all Bostonians, because we were there to share the spirit of the moment. Thanks to all of them and to all of you, I count myself lucky to be part of that process.

I'll be thinking of you during this final week of taper, pasta consumption, and excitement to return to the course next Monday. Thanks for your friendship and support.

With love,

Summer

Dear all, Thank you for you…
Dear all,

Thank you for your incredibly generous donations to the Boston One Fund. With under a month to go until the race, I can honestly say that training and fundraising for this team coupled with the outpouring of support from my friends, family, and community has been among the most humbling experiences of my life.

This weekend, I ran an 18-miler with the team on the marathon course (including Heartbreak Hill)! As our team is co-sponsored my Marathon Sports, we trekked the nine miles from their Brookline store to their Wellesley store...and back. This has been a tough winter in Boston - yet every weekend, I see so many runners out training. Since temperatures have begun to creep above freezing, the course has been packed with runners training and community members generously manning make-shift water stops.

Most of my training partners and supporters within the One Fund community were somehow directly impacted by last year's tragedy - some have spent the past year facing the challenge of physical as well as emotional recovery. A few of those very same people will be running this year's race. All have made incredible strides. It's inspirational to see the results of your donations already in action, and I'm proud to call both you and them part of my community. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your support.

Very best,

Summer
