I'm running in Bay to Breakers for Brenda!
Brenda is a 2nd year student at Daraja Academy, a free secondary school in Kenya for girls born into material poverty. She is from the Mmpru tribe, and grew up near Nanyuki. Brenda would never have been able to go to high school without Daraja.
Here are a few quotes from one of Brenda’s essays, so you can get to know her in her own words:
“My name is Brenda…I am 14 years old…My hobbies are: reading storybooks and novels, listening to music and chatting with my allies. My pet is a dog. I like to play football. I am a responsible and respectful girl…I am social to all people. When I grow up I would like to be a lecturer.”
“The greatest challenge I have had is being sent home from school due to lack of school fees and sometimes going to school hungry.”
Help me support Brenda's education, and the education of other girls like her!
