BENEFITING: Boys and Girls Club of Venice, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 18, 2011
In a recent study, in the 2010 graduating class, three out of every 10 young people won’t graduate on time. Low graduation rates contribute to increases in unemployment, poor health, crime and drug use.
The Boys & Girls Club of Venice dropout prevention program is designed to enhance each Club member's engagement with learning by providing consistent support from caring and trusted adults in developing the academic, emotional and social skills needed to achieve academic success.
In the most recent class of graduating seniors, Boys & Girls Club members exceeded National and County average graduation rates resulting in increased total work-life earning of their members by $185 million. In addition, one of the most promising findings of the survey of Club members (those who are high school seniors) was that four out of five (82.3%) indicate that they plan to attend college eventually after completing their high school.
We already know that the Clubs give kids a safe place to go after school to do homework, socialize and have fun instead of getting into trouble out on the streets, but now we know just how much good your investment in the Clubs is doing!
November marks the beginning of the Club’s Annual Giving Campaign. We deeply believe in the mission of the Club, and are dedicated to improving the lives of the children we serve in Venice and surrounding communities.
