BENEFITING: COMMONGROUND MINISTRY INC
Another Chance at Life (ACAL) is a peer-based, social support group designed to combat loneliness and isolation and promote treatment adherence for individuals with HIV/AIDS in the Milwaukee community. This group has been meeting at Elena's House, a transitional and end of life home for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, bi-weekly for nearly 11 years. We see daily the positive effect that feeling part of a “family” and feeling understood and accepted has on a person’s view of their own self worth and it is priceless. Meetings consist of a nutritiously balanced meal and some type of activity such as an educational in-service on HIV/AIDS-related topics, craft project, or special outing to a local theater, museum, festival, or other local attraction. The majority of our ACAL members live on a very low income or have no income at all, so these special meals and outings give them something to look forward to each month. Participants of ACAL also have access to our food pantry throughout the year. Along with being able to replenish non-perishable foods, the cook at Elena’s House prepares individual, nutritious meals that particpants are given to take home and reheat. Your support will enable CommonGround Ministry, through Elena’s House, to continue offering and growing Another Chance at Life. Your support will help cover the cost of meals, meeting supplies and special outings so our members can participate in group at no cost to them. Please give what you can; all donations help us reach our goal. Thank you!
