Another Dog for Heeling Autism

BENEFITING: GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND INC

EVENT DATE: Apr 30, 2013

THE STORY:

April is Autism Awareness Month. Steve and I took Janelle, a trained yellow lab from Guiding Eyes for the Blind into our home for six months.  She travelled with us to visit family, encouraged us to go on long walks, came to work with me and shared her inspiration during many public appearances.  On Monday, we dropped her off to be placed with a family who has a child with autism.  Janelle will wear her special vest and provide safety and companionship to a young boy...at that same time giving hope and love to the entire family.  It's hard to say goodbye to an amazing dog who has become part of our family. But I am proud she is going on to change lives.  We've given our love, but the program also needs money for the expert trainers, program materials and caregiver support.

This is an outstanding program that changes lives. I encourage everyone who knows a family struggling with an autistic child to donate just a little to this cause. The "Heeling Autism" program renews hope for families and children to be able to live a more normal life thanks to smart four-legged friends like Janelle, who we were proud to foster. Our former foster buddy, Gibbs, has been "on the job" for many months now with his friend, Wynston, and the entire family is so thankful. 4 years ago
