BENEFITING: TRINITY PLACE SHELTER
EVENT DATE: Jan 11, 2014
It's my birthday. And I don't want anything, no gift, not even a birthday drink. All I want is for you to make a donation to Trinity Place Shelter in the amount of one dollar per year of my age.... so...like, $29.
In total I would like to raise one dollar for each gray hair I have. Since that number is increasing every day, it's most cost effective if we do this sooner than later.
In case you don't know, there are something like 8-10,000 homeless gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, and queer young people in NYC. These youth account for up to 40% of the total homeless population of young people. That's because LGBTQ youth are more likely to be rejected by their own parents, thrown out of their homes when they come out, and more likely to be victimized and abused.
Despite this huge need for shelter, there are very few beds available for LGBTQ youth in NYC. There are really only a couple of shelters, and Trinity Place is the one I've been working with for the past 5 years. They do amazing work.
