BENEFITING: DC ROBOTICS
EVENT DATE: Mar 10, 2016
As a Board member of DC Robotics, I've wanted to help spur awareness of and financial support for the robotics programs that benefit at-risk youth in DC. So, I've come up with a rather unique way to do so. On March 10, 2016, I'll be running in the Antarctica Marathon and raising money for DC Robotics. Last year DC Robotics supported FIRST Robotics teams at both the FRC and FLL level in DC schools (that's high school and elementary school). DC Robotics helps provide the funding for items that either others can't or won't provide. The $10,000 target was chosen because that will enable DC Robotics to support an additional 20 FIRST League Lego (FLL) teams. We're hoping this unique event, c'mon, how many people do you know that have been to Antarctica let alone run a marathon there, will crystalize support for these programs.
You can pledge by the mile or by the number of penguins passed, which I'm told can vary from 1 to several hundred depending on how fishy you smell. If you pledge $10 or more per mile you'll get a postcard from as far south as possible. Pledge $20 or more and we'll take a picture of your child's, or your own Flat Stanley with a penguin. More than that and we'll get really creative with a customized Thank You for you. We'll be making a video of the trip and all donors will receive a link before the worldwide release on MTV. Kinda makes you wonder what that's about, eh?
