THE STORY:

As a Board member of the U.S. Chess Center I've wanted to help spur awareness of and financial support for the U.S Chess Center and its mission to deliver chess instruction to at-risk youth. So, I've come up with a rather unique way to do so. On March 10, 2016 I'll be running in the Antarctica Marathon and raising money for the U.S. Chess Center. Last year the US Chess Center supported 25 chess clubs in DC, bringing quality instruction to the city's neediest students. Besides the obvious strategic thinking benefits, chess also teaches patience and focus, skills that are crucial for the students future. The $10,000 target was chosen because that will enable the center to serve an additional 100 students. We're hoping this unique event, c'mon, how many people do you know that have been to Antarctica let alone run a marathon there, will crystalize support for these fantastic programs. You can pledge by the mile or by the number of penguins passed, which I'm told can vary from 1 to several hundred depending on how fishy you smell. If you pledge $10 or more per mile you'll get a postcard from as far south as possible. Pledge $20 or more and we'll take a picture of your child's, or your own Flat Stanley with a penguin. More than that and we'll get really creative with a customized Thank You for you. We'll be making a video of the trip and all donors will receive a link before the worldwide release on MTV. Kinda makes you wonder what that's about, eh?
