BENEFITING: SAMARITANS OF NEW YORK INC

EVENT: Samaritans 4th Annual BE A FRIEND Walkathon

EVENT DATE: Sep 25, 2016

Anthony Palillo

THE STORY:

It's here . . . the 4th Annual 'BE A FRIEND' 5K Walkathon on Sunday, September 25 which supports Samaritans Suicide Prevention Center, whose mission is to help New Yorkers in distress and save lives… one at a time.

Samaritans operates NYC's only 24-hour suicide prevention hotline, support groups that provide solace to those who have been touched by suicide, and education programs that teach the public and health professionals how to help people in crisis.

Whenever a person in distress needs a place to turn, a shoulder to lean on, someone to talk to who will take them seriously and listen--Samaritans Is There!

Please support my efforts to help this unique, community-based organization continue its all-important and life-saving work. Suicide is still a taboo subject, even though most of us know someone who struggles or has struggled with mental illness, trauma, sexual abuse, bullying or some kind of tragedy. That stigma means very few people think to make charitable donations to Samaritans despite its all-important work, which is able to operate on a shoestring thanks to the contributions of its caring volunteers.

As someone who is passionate about mental health and suicide prevention, I care deeply about the Samaritans and want to do whatever I can to help them continue their amazing work. Every little bit helps--please consider donating whatever you can to help me reach my goal of $250 to help out this amazing and vital organization. Each donation is 100% tax-deductible and will help the Samaritans continue to operate their hotline, survivor, and public education programs.

For more information on the Samaritans, please visit http://www.samaritansnyc.org/ or read this article (albeit from 2009, though fairly relevant) from the New York Times that describes the impact of Samaritans: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/03/nyregion/03nyc.html
