EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016

THE STORY:

I chose to be a part of Team V for three reasons: (1) The cause (2) My wife is a cancer survivor (Ovarian) (3) I am a sports enthusiast and I watch the Jimmy V speech every year! It is the best motivational speech about life - ever! If you have not had the chance to watch it - take some time to do so. I have included it on my page.

Also I have completed 2 New York City Marathons and it is such a magnificent event. Words can't express the feeling one gets from this run.  My son was selected via the lottery process and the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon will be his debut marathon. The fact that both of us will be participating in this awesome marathon will greatly enhance the experience for the both of us. Sometimes opportunities in life occur only once (like the chance to run in a debut marathon with your son) and when that time comes - take it. That is what I plan to do. Doing it through raising funds for the Jimmy V Foundation to fight cancer adds the cherry to the top of this experience.

The V Foundation was founded by ESPN and former award-winning NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Coach Valvano was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. When he created the Foundation, he knew that it was too late for research to save him. But he spent his last months alive creating a legacy of hope for others diagnosed with this debilitating disease.

In the past 22 years, The V Foundation has awarded more than $150 million to cancer research and related programs nationwide.

Jim Valvano’s “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”® spirit is alive now more than ever. And it is the perfect motto to carry us through the largest marathon in the world.  With continued support, we will forge ahead with innovative research. Join us on Team V or support us through a donation – either way, you are making a difference and saving lives.
