BENEFITING: Courage Beyond
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
I am running the Marine Corps Marathon on October 27, 2013, to raise funds for Courage Beyond, a national non-profit organization that provides confidential, no-cost programs and services to warriors and their families facing post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other invisible wounds of war. Sadly, there is a significant need in our nation for these services. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, over 8,000 veterans died at their own hand in 2010; and since 2011, there have been more suicides in the military than combat deaths. This is according to the latest government published data, which likely understates this condition.
After I began researching this topic, my interest in helping find solutions to the problem of more of our military dying by suicide than in combat intensified. When people in the military come home from war—after making significant sacrifices on our behalf—I would not want them to think that they have no help with their struggles. My hope is that you will make a donation to support those whose lives are impacted by war and who have given so much for our nation. Every small amount matters.
