EVENT DATE Dec 27, 2015

THE STORY:

Anthony was born on May 10, 2001 with the X-linked MTM1, the severest form of Muscular Dystrophy. He lived his first 6 months of his life at Yale Children’s Hospital and is the only boy in CT with this disease. Doctors at birth gave him hours to live and said he would never see his 1st birthday. Little did they know that he would be celebrating his 15th this May. He lives in Monroe, CT with his three brothers, Frank, Doug and Michael, and his parents, Doug and Tina. Anthony’s positive attitude and energetic drive to succeed is contagious. He is an inspiration to all that meet him. Anthony is in 9th grade in the public high school and truly strives each day to do the best he can. He is currently playing soccer on Masuk High School’s Unified Sports team and performing in the school musical, The Adams Family. He gets up at 6:00am, goes to school, attends therapy, and then participates in either play or soccer practice before coming home for play dates and bedtime at 8 pm. Where he gets his energy is beyond me. We were so proud to recently learn that Anthony was crowned Freshman Homecoming King. Anthony works so hard to read, write and speak. He does not have the ability to swallow, is fed via a G-tube, and requires a vent 24/7. Anthony has a powered wheelchair which he has mastered the ability to drive in the tightest of corners and should be given tickets for because he drives way too fast. The weight bearing of a stander twice a day helps strengthen his bones which have been weakened by scoliosis. None of this gets him down. His voice has gotten clearer and his attitude is so cool. He is definitely a typical teenager. He has 3 brothers that love him so much. They all know how to suction him and how to change his trache. They love to lay with him at night until he falls asleep. They truly are angels to him. We love watching them greet him with a hug and kiss hello or goodnight. It is awesome to watch. He has many friends (all girls of course) that come over each day and then sleep over every Friday and Saturday night. They have been doing this for years. Their compassion and friendship only grows stronger everyday! Anthony always has a smile on his face, regardless of all the obstacles he faces every day. He is, quite simply, a happy boy. He just recently had surgery and, after being under for 8 hours, was determined to drive his wheelchair out of the hospital. He has special angels working overtime to help him heel! The power of prayer is incredible and we truly believe that he has many angels along with God to give him his strength! The doctor’s couldn’t believe how fast he recovered. The last time Anthony was admitted was in 2011, so we thank God for being able to care for him at home as well as we do. When we feel it is necessary for him to be seen, or now that he knows his body so well, he will tell us, and we will bring him in. We live life for today and never worry about tomorrow. We just enjoy every moment we have with Anthony and our other 3 boys. We try to let Anthony do as much as he possibly can. We don’t limit him to anything! He has gone on roller coasters, the Big Yellow Slide at the Big E (Lots of stairs to carry him up ) swims in our pool, went down a slip and slide (wouldn’t recommend that one though…) and even rode on the handle bar of a ten speed bike! Anthony never misses out on anything, as long as we can make it happen. We do our best to make sure he never feels different! Anthony is not just alive; he is living life to the fullest. The happiness that Anthony has brought to our family is more than words could ever say. He has truly shown us what life is really about and we thank God everyday for blessing us with such an angel! The Katz Family is the most amazing family.  Anthony has shown everyone to live life to the fulliest to wake up happy everyday. His willingness to never give up and push on makes everyone around him stronger and better people. Anthony and his family are an inspiration to everyone that knows them. The reason forthe fundraiser is that we are trying to get Anthony and his family down to Anthony's favorite place on earth, Disney World. It not the easiest of trips to make. Anthony has a lot to take with him all his medical needs (boxes and boxes) and his powered wheelchair, but we know it'll all be worth it just to see his smile once he sees Mickey! Please with your help we can make this happen for this amazing Family! Mickey here comes Anthony!
