BENEFITING: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
ORGANIZER: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to run the Brooklyn Marathon November 15. I will run on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). It is a privilege to support the HRC, and we look forward to dedicating more of our time, talent, and treasure to HRC in the future.
Most of you know I cry easily. I get pretty emotional when I run marathons. Overcoming the fear and meeting a big goal is huge for me. Knowing I have the opportunity to do so in a life devoid of most hate and discrimination is not lost on me. I will run on behalf of HRC which supports and lends a voice to people in the LGBTQ community who are not getting equal treatment. I can only imagine I will be one big weepy mess.
Because this race is just not about me at all. At the end of the day, it may be my feet that cross the finish line but it is all of us who run the race. It is all of us who must stay the course until our daughters, our sons, our friends, our co-workers and our fellow citizens ALL have equal rights.
I am asking for your support as I take this journey in November. For some that may be financial support. For others that may be sending good vibes on race day. I hope all of you will visit hrc.org to get the latest information on LGBTQ rights and their work for equality for all.
In gratitude, Kirsten
