THE STORY:

Anytown KC wrote -

AnytownKC is a summer leadership institute for high school students in the Greater Kansas City area. The program's purpose is to inspire a young generation of leaders who will create more just and inclusive communities. Anytown was once a national program occurring in cities across the country, however it is now only offered in a few cities. KC youth last experienced Anytown in 2010.

During the week long institute, youth learn through each other's experiences of oppression and prejudice with large group similations and exercises and through small groups discussions. Anytowners build relationships with young people different than themselves which in turns build community.  After participating in Anytown, young people return home to their families and schools ready to lead in new and empowered ways and work together to confront oppression and prejudice in all its forms.  To learn first hand what its like to experience Anytown, take a minute to read one alumni's story.

In partnership with the National Conference for Community & Justice of St. Louis, we hope to host #AnytownKC in July 2017. We call on past delegates and volunteers to reflect on what they learned about the Anytown Spirit and to help us to re-engage a young generation of leaders. We need your help to revive #AnytownKC in Greater Kansas City.  The major costs of the 8 day, 7 night overnight camp include meals, supplies, insurance, transporation, and some additional overhead costs.  Please consider making a contribution and encouraging your friends, family, and allies to do the same.
