The AnytownKC Youth Leadership Institute is a week-long program for high school youth to explore and unpack privilege and oppression while empowering students to create inclusive and just communities. Anytown provides a safe, inclusive platform for high school youth to meet peers across the KC Metro, learn about the forms of oppression, and discover how they can become change agents in the face of bigotry.
Now more than ever, we need to equip our community’s youth with the skills to build communities of inclusion in order to foster a healthy metropolitan area. Thanks to the fiscal sponsorship of the National Conference for Community and Justice of Metropolitian St. Louis (NCCJ-St. Louis), Kansas City will be able to host Anytown in the local community for the 2nd year in a row.
Food, supplies, lodging and other overhead costs are the greatest expenses associated with providing the AnytownKC Youth Leadership Institute. This expense is being donated in part by a local university partner. Plus, our staff is 100% volunteer based, but that still doesn’t cover the costs for allowing students to attend. We still need your help to make it happen. Your help will support the expense of three meals per day per student and volunteer and will help to provide scholarships to students with financial need.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
How will the funds be managed and transferred?
Once the Crowdrise fundraising goals have been met, the funds will be securely transferred over all at once to NCCJ St. Louis which has set up a separate bank account for AnytownKC. The AnytownKC steering committee will allocate those funds as needed for the program. They have a treasurer in place to manage donations in a transparent way.
How do I get a tax-deductible donation receipt?
For those who wish to donate and receive a tax receipt, Crowdrise is set-up to issue automatic receipts via email after a donation is made. See their FAQ answer for full details.
What if I want to start an Anytown program in another community?
Anytown was at one time a national program operating in many communities with a local National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) office that affiliated with the national NCCJ office. Several years ago the national organization closed and only a few local offices remained in various cities and retained the copyrights to both the NCCJ name and the branded programs like “Anytown.” At this time, NCCJ St. Louis is only able to work with volunteers in Kansas City to restart the Anytown program in that city. However, we know that this is a program that could benefit communities across the country. If you can commit to giving to the AnytownKC program for now and stay connected we will commit to talking with you and figuring out ways we can give more people the opportunity to participate in Anytown and programs like it that help build more inclusive communities.
