A Parklet in the Laurel!
Organized by: Estelle Davis
We see this community project as an opportunity to reclaim urban space for the people. The parklet is a welcome space for kids to hang out after a bike ride, for people waiting for their laundry to dry, or for to anyone to simply have a place to sit. We want to shift our neighborhood from a car-oriented to a more pedestrian and bicyclist-friendly environment. Wouldn't it be great if we could celebrate this successful project, come the Laurel Street Fair this August? Laurel Cyclery is sponsoring this project, in collaboration with Laurel District businesses, and the City of Oakland. In the design, a “bicycle corral” – or parking for ten bikes, and a parklet that will replace two parallel parking spots in front of Laurel Cyclery.
