Appalachian State’s Solar Vehicle Team will be competing in The Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP), and the American Solar Challenge (ASC) in July 2016. The FSGP is an international annual track event will be held on a grand prix or road style closed course. This unique style of racing truly tests the limits of solar cars in handling curves, braking, and acceleration. Strategy applied during these three day events is different than what is applied on the cross-country event. After completing the FSGP, qualifier for the ASC, the team will take their vehicle on US highways to race 1800+ miles from Eastern Ohio to South Dakota during the American Solar Challenge. Appalachian’s Solar Vehicle Team has recognized the reality of solar transportation and the need to create vehicles that can support a longer range of transportation that expands outside a city setting. The solution lies in research and development of new technologies and advancement of current technology. Creating consistency in the longevity of our resources is key which is why solar collection and energy storage are two of the most important components of success in energy reduction today. Your tax-deductible contribution will enable us to optimize Apperion for this race season and send a team of devoted student-engineers and mechanics to the race-track this July. Any size contribution is greatly appreciated. For a donation meeting or exceeding $5000 we will grant your name or company logo a spot for your logo on the side of our solar car which will be seen by thousands of spectators as the car travels between states and national parks. With your consent will recognize any sized contribution at our all of our upcoming events, on campus, online, and in the community.
