BENEFITING: ANTI-PREJUDICE CONSORTIUM INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 400
I am a volunteer, a facilitator, a board member, and the fund development chair for APC (The Anti-Prejudice Consortium). No, I'm not bored. I'm convinced. Convinced that the POP (Power Over Prejudice) Summit, the primary program of the APC, makes a difference in the mindset of each child (and adult) that it comes in contact with directly and indirectly. The Summit is a one-day event on prejudice and discrimination that raises student’s awareness about cultural, racial, ethnic, socio-economic and physical differences.
This event brings teams of middle school students together to listen to dynamic keynote speakers and participate in workshops on bullying, prejudice, and discrimination. Students are engaged in small breakout groups, to learn about how to deal with and overcome the negative impact of bullying, prejudice, and discrimination.
Each breakout group is led by trained POP facilitators. Through activities and discussions, students learn how to recognize their own prejudices, biases, and stereotypes and how these can cause social and academic problems. Students learn tools for embracing differences and then are prepared to promote awareness back at their school.
The summit will be held at Georgia Tech again this year on October 9, 10, and 11. We have over 75 schools registered and 5 wait listed! Help me make this summit awesome buy lending your financial support. The money will pay for bus travel, STOP Stereotypes t-shirts, food, materials, etc. for the kids. This event is free to schools, but the money has to come from somewhere. Why not you!?
Thanks for the support!
