BENEFITING: CHESAPEAKE CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK
EVENT: CCAN Polar Plunge 2016
EVENT DATE: Jan 30, 2016
On January 23, I will make my fifth annual wintertime plunge into the Potomac River!
Why do such a crazy thing? To raise needed funds to support the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN), called by international climate leader Bill McKibben "the world's most effective regional climate action organization."
While it is daunting to put on a bathing suit to run into the icy-cold river in January, it's worth it. The money we Plungers (!) raise from friends and family members who sponsor our plunge helps strengthen CCAN's efforts throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC to address the climate crisis.
CCAN works in legislatures, city councils, with citizen groups and student groups, to speed the shift to green energy, to stop the construction of polluting fossil fuel plants, to educate the public, and much more.
Meeting the challenge of climate change is my passion--it was this issue that inspired me to run in 2015 for the Virginia state senate against Mark Obenshain, a legislator who helped kill excellent climate legislation.
I have set myself an ambitious fundraising goal for the Plunge--$5,000. I hope you will help me meet my goal by sponsoring me.
Whether or not you live in the CCAN region, your sponsorship of my Plunge is an effective action for the whole planet, because smart, targeted efforts to address the climate crisis, wherever such efforts occur, benefit all of us, wherever we live.
You can sponsor my plunge easily and quickly by making an online donation through my CCAN fundraising page. Or if you prefer to write a check, you can make it out to CCAN and send it to me: April Moore, 86 Sunset Ridge, Broadway, VA 22815.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING A HEALTHY CLIMATE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN!
