Lupus is a disease that has become very close to my heart, since being officially diagnosed with SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) in August 2015. Since then I have made it my mission to learn as much as I can about this disease, as well as do as much as I possibly can to raise awareness. When I was first diagnosed, my first question was, "What is Lupus??" Upon being told what Lupus is and how it can effect you, I was scared silly! Then after a few days I decided I could let this disease beat me, or I could put on my positive pants and try to make a difference. That is when my family and I began to learn everything we can about this disease. We even changed our favorite color to purple, which I now wear every day! If people ask why so much purple all the time, it opens the door to start a conversation about Lupus. If that makes even one person learn something about Lupus, or better yet, do some research about Lupus on their own, it is working. I am doing this fundraiser as a way to contribute to an organization that will use this money toward crucial research that will hopefully lead to the much needed cure to this horrible disease. I was going to participate in a Lupus walk to raise money and awareness, however the closest walk to us is an hour and a half away,(My amazing sister-in-law, Lori, is doing a walk for Lupus in Texas which really means a lot to me). On top of the distance, with the severe pain I have in my hips, knees, and ankles almost daily, it is very difficult for me to walk too terribly far, and if it is a really bad day, I may not be able to walk at all. When I found this fundraising opportunity, I was thrilled, because I knew this was something I could do! Well, now you have a little bit of my back story I hope you will consider making a donation to this great cause. Thank you for your time and your donations!
