Garine Lapoyan was not only my cousin but also one of the most caring, beautiful and fun loving people I knew. We were always close, despite the geography that separated us and we always looked forward to hanging out during those long summer holidays.

Garine had a fighting spirit that truly amazed me. It was this will to survive that pulled her through four cancer battles. Doctors told us her chances were slim and to prepare for the worst but she proved them wrong every time.

On August 1st 2012, Garine was unable to overcome her cancer battle the fifth time around. Her passing left a void which will never disappear.

When I took the decision to climb Mount Ararat only a couple of weeks' ago, I knew I wanted to challenge my body and push myself to the limit. I will not lie. The prospect of rising over 5137m (16,854 feet) above the ground is daring but it's a mountain that is surmountable.

This mission to reach the top of Mount Ararat celebrates the will to fight, to not give up and ultimately grab all of life's wonderful opportunities.

If you would like to support my journey, please leave messages on the wall and donate to the Ewing's Sarcoma Research Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Garine to help fund global research to find the cure.
