Hi Friends and Family!

Last summer I had the privilege of going on YU’s Counterpoint Israel summer program. Anyone attending of affiliated with YU has probably heard of this program before but suprisinbgly not to many people know what it does or the impact it has. I myself found the answer last summer. What counterpoint does is offer American college students the ability to run a summer camp for Israeli teenager living amidst different communities in Southern Israel. Counterpoint aims to ultimate goal give their participants a greater understanding of Jewish communal work, and to cultivate a lasting relationships between the American Jewish community with the various municipalities of Southern Israel.

When’s the last time anyone has even heard about an Israeli going to summer camp? Throughout most of Israel summer camp is a foreign concept. Counterpoint works toward to giving underprivileged Israeli kids a meaningful and beneficial experience that they otherwise are missing throughout the rest of the year . Counterpoint aims to bridge the gap between mainstream Israeli society and the American Jewish community. By teaching the campers English we give them a greater chance to succeed in school, have more career opportunities, and build confidence. Likewise the YU students on this program, are given valuable life skills while intensifying their love for Israel. The summer camps are developed and implemented collaboratively so that Israeli stakeholders see Counterpoint’s camps not as a “gift” from the Jewish Diaspora but as an indispensable part of their educational systems.

On my own experience, somehow through speaking broken Hebrew, I managed to forge meaningful relationships with so many people that summer. With no prior teaching experience and broken Hebrew in hand we held English classes for 90 minutes each day with the goal of teaching English to these kids. Inevitably us the “Americanim” probably learned more Hebrew than teaching English.

We need your help to keep this amazing program running. In the past 8 years, more than 250 YU students and 1000 Israeli teens from 8 development towns have been impacted by the Counterpoint Israel program. These successes are due to generous donors and supporters. Every contribution helps ensure that Counterpoint Israel is able to continue its missions of developing Jewish leaders, enriching and instilling confidence in Israeli teens, and fostering empowering partnerships with development towns in Israel. On Sunday, June 1st, I will be running in the Celebrate Israel run for YU’s Counterpoint Israel team.

Any amount of money can go a long way. Your support is a critical part of this effort and I know that to[removed];gether we can make a difference to these Israeli teenagers.
