Welcome to our fundraising page! Thank you for stopping by! Craig and I will be running the Marine Corps Marathon this October and could not be more honored to be running for the Arrendondo Family fund. For those of you that know Craig and I this will be his 1st marathon and for me this will be one with a much greater purpose as we will be raising funds to provide emergency aid to military families related to suicide burials, raising funds to help with suicide prevention, and raising funds to support military siblings in education.
The Boston Marathon bombings effected everyone in a different way, and made Boston stronger as we united and rallied together. Carlos, the co-founder and president of the charity, to many in Boston is known as the cowboy who rushed into the attacks and helped Jeff Bauman. Carlos lost both of his sons, one while serving in Iraq and one to suicide. I ran the Boston Marathon the year of the attacks, while my family waited at the finish for me. I still can't even type this without getting a lump in my chest and water in my eyes thinking about the "what ifs". Luckily they were all safe, and I was honored to run the following year and stand with so many against injustice, fear, and doing what we love.
I never want to imagine that heartbreak he felt, but I do know that this happens and families are affected by it, and if Craig and I can run and help raise valuable funds for this charity and help potentially prevent suicide through their charity, and help accommodate families dealing with an immeasurable lose we are up for the challenge.
Please consider donating to our fundraising efforts, no amount is too small, and we are so grateful for the amazing friends, family, and strangers in our lives. Hero's help everyone, strangers and friends, they help with no motivations of their own, they run in when others run out, and they strive to always do more. Thank you for letting us share a little insight into our journey with you.
WHAT THE ARREDONDO FAMILY FOUNDATION DOES?
AFF (the Arredondo Family Foundation) provides military families support in the following manners:
By providing emergency funds to aid with military related suicide burials or with other after burial costs for military families who have lost a loved one to suicide.
By providing referrals to after-care so families can meet with a support group and also a therapist if necessary. AFF does this with the help of our partner agencies.
By providing scholarships to military siblings for university or military siblings or kids for parochial school.
By providing QPR suicide prevention training so that military families and friends are able to be aware of how to prevent another military related suicide.
By providing a turkey giveaway at Thanksgiving for families who have lost someone to suicide well as veterans, military and Gold Star families.
By providing holiday support and/or activities.
