Arrupe El Salvador Immersion Trip
Organized by: Chandler Hicks
I will be traveling in January 2016, during Boston College’s winter break, with a team of 13 other Boston College students, along with two faculty/staff “Arrupe Mentors” to the country of El Salvador in Central America. For about 10 days we’ll be participating in an immersion trip, in conjunction with a Salvadoran organization called Fundahmer, which seeks to educate U.S. citizens about the political, economic, social, and religious realities of people living in El Salvador. During the trip, we’ll have an opportunity to hear personal stories from Salvadorans who have been effected by the country’s civil war, including farmers, political leaders, and educators, among others. Our team also will have an opportunity to serve and stay for a few days with Salvadoran families in a rural, economically impoverished community, so that we might share our respective life experiences with each other.
