BENEFITING: FILTERS FOR FAMILIES
Hi, I'll be travelling to Nepal next June with my buddy. Nepal has a problem with their groundwater, it contains arsenic which is making people sick the country over. My goal is to raise 400$ to purchase 15 Arsenic Biosand water Filters for 15 families in 2015. The cost of a biosand filter is approximately 20$ Canadian. 400$ will purchase 15 filters and also include transport and training of the filters to the needy families. I plan to purchase directly from a supplier in Kathmandu and make sure they get delivered to people in need and make sure they get training on how to use and maintain it. Cement Arsenic Biosand Filters will last a lifetime and only needs the contents of the filter (sand, gravel, rusty nails) to be replaced approximately every 2 yrs. These contents are available locally in markets for a minimal cost to the family.
The water filters through the rusty nails at the top, which removes the arsenic, and then through the sand and finally through the gravel at the bottom which produces water that is clean, healthy and safe to drink for anyone.
