We are volunteers with Mosaic Community Services, Inc. in Baltimore, MD. We volunteer here -- on the Board, on committees and with programs -- because its a terrific set of programs that are empowering and uplifting to its many clients and families. Although Mosaic is quite a large non-profit (10,000+ clients) there is No Budget for healing arts programming, because of the fee for service model of U.S. healthcare payments does not include art therapy. So, although Mosaic clients love creating visual art (especially painting, drawing, and collage) and find it healing, reflective, and strengthening, they and staff have to make due with only the materials they can scrounge.
We would like to change that!
We want to help Mosaic clients unleash the healing and empowering potential of art and their own talents and self-expression. As a first phase, we are seeking to raise $6,000 so that each of Mosaic's three main psychiatric rehabilitation programs will have (a) $100 per quarter for art supplies, plus (b) $150 each to give in honorarium to a volunteering artist to lead a workshop, each year for the next three years.
