BENEFITING: Arthritis Foundation
ORGANIZER: Arthritis Foundation
Almost no one knows this about me, but I found out I had a disease called ankylosing spondylitis (AS) about 20 years ago, when I was just in middle school. AS is a form of arthritis that affects the spine and large joints, and for me, it affects them every single day. The pain ranges from dull to excruciating, but it is always there. I determined early on that I would beat this disease and not let it rule my life. So far, I have managed to live a healthy, active lifestyle even though there are many days I don't want to get out of bed. The 2017 NYC Marathon is the next challenge in line for me. I have no idea if my body can handle the 26.2 mile run, let alone the training regimen leading up to the race. However, I am so excited (and nervous) to give it my best shot while raising money for an organization that has literally helped make my life more comfortable for the past 20 years.
