What An Amazing Experience!

BENEFITING: Arthritis Foundation
ORGANIZER: Arthritis Foundation
Hi All! Welcome to my fundraising page! If you are here, then you are at least partly aware as to what my goal is; I have been invited to join The Arthritis Foundation Team as they participate in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5th! The Team will be working hard to raise money, awareness and positive support for all those living with some type of arthritis. Did you know that “More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children have some type of arthritis…it is the leading cause of disability in America” (The Arthritis Foundation, 2017). I hope to participate for all those who struggle to find normalcy in their everyday lives; a struggle that I can personally relate to.
I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) when I was 17 years old and have been living with (AS) for almost 20 years now. (AS) is a type of inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine or back as well as the extremities. For me, some days are great…others are a struggle; sometimes it seems to be in remission, other times it is in full effect. I stay as active as possible because exercise is a key part of managing the disease, but I also do not want this disease to define who I am. Every day, I need to prove to myself that I can still live my life as I want it and (AS) will not be the deciding factor as to what I can and cannot do. I would much rather be a participant in this life than a spectator, and while I am still in control, I will continue to participate to the fullest. True… I have (AS), but it certainly does not have me!
So if I may ask you to donate to my fundraising page, I would be forever grateful. Running the NYC Marathon has been a dream of mine ever since I attended the race as a child/spectator. To run the greatest city in the world, with such a great partner organization and for a cause that has personally affected my family for almost 20 years, will certainly make for one of the most memorable moments of my life. I thank you all for your consideration to donate and I hope that, come race day, I will make you all very proud of the accomplishment that we have achieved together.
