BENEFITING: Arthritis Foundation
ORGANIZER: Arthritis Foundation
So it's official! This November, I will be running the NYC Marathon for the Arthritis Foundation. As some of you know, this is a cause that is important to my family. Last year, my healthy 10 year old daughter started to have pain in her wrist and ankles. We didn't think too much about it - passing it off as the beginning of the softball season and growing pains. Then, one day in June, her knee blew up the size of a small grapefruit. The doctors thought it was Lyme, but it turned out to be Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA or JIA). She quickly developed swelling in both knees, wrists, and ankles.
Thankfully, she has a wonderful team of rheumatologists at Boston's Children's Hospital! Throughout it all, my daughter has managed to keep a smile on her face, and to try and do everything she loves to do as well as she can. I hope to do the same for 26.2 miles!
I don't post a lot of pictures, but I wanted to show you who I am running the NYC marathon to help. This is my beautiful daughter, who truly lives the saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."
