BENEFITING: Michigan Youth Arts Festival

EVENT DATE: Aug 31, 2013

THE STORY:

Benefiting arts education and research for cystic fibrosis, the Priority Health Arts In Motion 5K/10K Walk/Run takes place in the heart of downtown Royal Oak, Michigan, during one of the state's most celebrated festivals, Arts, Beats & Eats.

Arts Education: Michigan Youth Arts
In the state of Michigan, 108,000 students go to school without some sort of arts educational programming. Michigan Youth Arts is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop, recognize and advocate for excellence in arts education for all. Their "Bus Grant" program has provided field trip transportation for more than 30,000 students across the state. Additionally, their flagship event, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, recognizes and celebrates the top 1,000 high school artists and performers in the state, through 3 days of high-quality workshops and grand showcases.

Cystic Fibrosis: ROCK CF
Cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder, is one of the most common chronic lung diseases in children and young adults. Rock CF is dedicated to raising awareness about the disease, and raising funds for research. Through its "Rocks Back" program, Rock CF has been able to provide cystic fibrosis patients with percussion and wind instruments, which helps them keep their airways clear, and also provides them with exercise, self-expression, and social opportunities.

The 2013 Arts In Motion 5K/10K Walk/Run is sponsored by Priority Health, Arts Beats & Eats presented by First Merit Bank, Michigan Youth Arts, ROCK CF, and FormCode.
