WSCC has an open space in our main hall. CONCEPT The title for the mural is Community Canopy which reflects the sheltering role that WSCC fills through the services it provides to the neighborhood. IMAGE The idea behind this image was inspired by the big beautiful tree to the north side of the main entrance. In this version, a tree full of hands of various colors (signifying both the diversity of the population served, and the many hands that are involved in providing a range of services) provides a canopy over the neighborhood below. The air is full of music, the ladders represent life’s journeys, and the stacked tea cups, teapot and spoon represent the nurturing context of food and shared meals such as senior lunch, the community dinner, and all the meals provided for kids. Many faces can be found within the bark of the tree. FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION A scaled original will be created using embossed and painted metal, as shown in this small concept sketch. It will be photographed and digitally enlarged and reproduced on vinyl which will be mounted on 3-5 vertical metal panels. The panels will be installed within the recessed space that originally held a stained glass window on the south wall of the old sanctuary. The mural will enliven and brighten the space and reflects the welcoming, warm and nurturing nature of the community center. DIMENSIONS The mural will be arched on top and will be approximately 11.5' wide and 12.25' tall at the highest point of the arch.
