BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF RAMANAS GARDEN INC
Help raise $15,000 for an orphanage in Northern India to buy a school bus to bring 'untouchable' kids safely to school!
Ramana’s Garden India was founded by a dedicated and forceful American woman, Prabhavati Dwabha, 20 years ago as a result of her spiritual practice on the banks of the River Ganga. Prabhavati’s heart overflowed with compassion for the numerous homeless, destitute, and abused children she met there, and she decided to make those children her life’s work. On a shoestring budget, she has for years provided a growing number of children with education, nourishment, and a future where they had little or no hope.
Today, a dozen years after opening its doors, Ramana’s Garden India is home to more than 80 resident children, many of whom have lost both parents. There are an additional 200 children from nearby impoverished families, many with a single parent, who come into school each day. Twelve paid professional teachers lead a solid curriculum of core classes, including Math, Science, English, Hindi, and the arts. The education provided is on a par with the best primary schools in India, and thus will serve to provide the kids with opportunities for adult careers that otherwise would be unimaginable. Ramana’s Garden India places a strong emphasis on environmental protection and creative expression such as painting, music, and dance.
Today, Ramana's Garden has an urgent need. It needs to buy a school bus to drive its high-school students safely to school, which is 1 and 1/2 hour away from the garden (the government does not allow Ramana's garden to build its own high school).
Today, these students take overcrowded public transportations to go to school everyday. One student even suffered a heat stroke the other day in one of these public buses.
The $15,000 is the amount needed to buy an air-conditioned 17 passengers bus. Monies will go directly to Friends of Ramana’s Garden, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) charity, which will pass 100% of the money to Prabhavati to buy the bus. Thank you for all your help!
