Stuff About Me:

Makenna Grace was small, premature, and is a twin. She was Born with Brachial Plexus Palsy and couldn't use her left arm properly or turn her head to the right. As a result of BPP she developed Plagiocephaly resulting in her wearing a helmet until she was almost 18 months old. Above all, Makenna is a monochorionic-Diamniotic twin (moni-di twin) summed up briefly: One egg that split, two sacs and a shared placenta. My little Peanut is a Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) Survivor. It was not discovered until it was at Stage three. My Twins were delivered by emergency Cesarean Section at 36 weeks after it was determined that Makenna had quit progressing and was no longer thriving since she was 33 weeks. After birth she was failing to thrive, getting down to 3 pounds even with Gavage feeding in NICU. Her Twin Kamryn graduated from the NICU prior to Makenna being on room air. We decided to reunite the girls by bringing Kamryn into Makenna’s room for a few hours a day to allow them to lay in the isolette together. It was controversial but I knew in my heart they needed to be together. In typical Peanut fashion she " turned the corner" and took off. She was soon able to breathe room air and began to self regulate her body temperature. She had her feeding tube removed and graduated from the NICU 2 days later. We had a Pediatric nurse who visited our home twice a week to monitor Peanut's progress and development. Makenna displayed Sensory integration issues at a very young age. As a result Makenna has been in therapies since she was 2 months old. In the beginning this included a weekly home visit from an Occupational Therapist as well as a weekly visit to an Occupational Therapist at her office. Makenna had a lot of factors going against her (so to say). Through it all, my little Fighter has overcome every obstacle and bloomed into the Amazing Peanut we all love. She just so happens to have an Autism Enhancement
