BENEFITING: Red Bull Theater Inc.
EVENT DATE: Feb 16, 2011
The Skinny: Red Bull Theater combined our "Witch of Edmonton" student matinee with our ASL interpreted public performance. In addition to the adult deaf audience we expected to reserve, our Access Coordinator and fantastic Education Director put the word out to a number of schools with deaf and hard-of-hearing programs.
The Result: The response has been OVERWHELMING. Not only do we have a wonderfully mixed and full audience for the first matinee, but the demand is such that we need to add another student matinee - and that will be SOLD OUT AS WELL!
We've found a tremendous need in the public schools with deaf and hard of hearing populations for cultural/live-performance opportunities, and we have the opportunity to fill it. It's really an unexpected and phenomenal response.
The catch - We budgeted for one student matinee - they cost $3,000 - and we have technical assistance for one ASL interpreted performance from the New York State Council on the Arts. Adding another ASL-interpreted student matinee will cost around $4,000, and the schools pay a nominal $5/ticket to offset the costs. A generous board member has offered $1,000.
The Need: There's a $2,000 funding gap we need to fill in order to make this possible.
Can you help?
