BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
For the first time in event history, the NYC Marathon (11/1) is allowing duo teams to participate in this year's race. That is where Gary Genovas and I will be as one of the six duo teams selected to run! We'll be proudly representing myTEAM TRIUMPH (more on that below) and this will be our third marathon together in a little over a year. Our first was the Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, PA on October 12th, 2014, which we used to qualify for Boston on April 20th, 2015.
Through our time together, I have come to know Gary for the person he is, rather than by the disability he has (cerebral palsy). I no longer see him as a handicapped man, but just as someone who is remarkably upbeat, easy-going and deserving of the journey we have been on. I am really excited to share the experience of the NYC Marathon with a friend that has changed the way I feel about myself and taken me to peaks impossible to reach on my own.
At the end of the day, experiences like these facilitated by organizations like myTEAM TRIUMPH are not possible without financial donations. So thank you for being a part of the engine should you choose to contribute. It will earn you a bear hug, redeemable when I see you next.
About myTEAM TRIUMPH
mTT is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events like marathons, other road races and even triathlons. It is a nationwide organization that promotes partnerships between the athletic community and persons with various physical and mental challenges to create friendships and great race experiences!
mTT was inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, a father-son team who have completed 30+ Boston Marathons, six Ironman Triathlons, and countless other endurance events, gaining international prominence doing so. Rick Hoyt was born with cerebral palsy and is a quadriplegic. Dick pushed his son in his wheelchair in their first road race in 1977 when Rick was 15 years of age. After finishing, Rick told his father “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like my disability disappears”. This was all Dick had to hear and it led to a lifelong pursuit of endurance events by the two, inspiring others worldwide.
It is our honor to spread their great message of inclusiveness throughout our community! Your donation will support mTT's investment in more running chairs and allow them to continue placing duo teams in races of all types for the joy of the many worthy participants they hope to serve over the years.
myTEAM TRIUMPH is a registered 501(c) charitable organization, and any donation is tax-deductible.
