BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
On October 8th, Gary and I are returning to Scranton to run in the Steamtown Marathon. This is a special place for us considering it's where we ran our first race together back in 2014. I know we are both really excited to be back and to be representing myTEAM TRIUMPH, a non-profit that is an absolute blessing (more about mTT below and how your donation will make an impact).
It's going to be a very difficult day this time around in Scranton. Gary sadly lost his father three weeks after that 2014 run together - and so as it turned out, the finish line area was the last place Gary had a chance to be with his dad. The emotional challenge will be coupled with a bigtime physical struggle given the weather we are up against. Just getting to that finish line area again is going to require a lot. This is where your support will come up huge. I've figured out through my marathon experiences that training can get you pretty far, but what motivates the brain to push the body when there's nothing left is the people who put their resources behind you - whether its money, encouragement, or anything in between - and those who you remember in your heart.
About myTEAM TRIUMPH
mTT is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events like marathons, other road races and even triathlons. It is a nationwide organization that promotes partnerships between the athletic community and persons with various physical and mental challenges to create friendships and great race experiences!
mTT was inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, a father-son team who have completed 30+ Boston Marathons, six Ironman Triathlons, and countless other endurance events, gaining international prominence doing so. Rick Hoyt was born with cerebral palsy and is a quadriplegic. Dick pushed his son in his wheelchair in their first road race in 1977 when Rick was 15 years of age. After finishing, Rick told his father “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like my disability disappears”. This was all Dick had to hear and it led to a lifelong pursuit of endurance events by the two, inspiring others worldwide.
It is our honor to spread their great message of inclusiveness throughout our community! Your donation will support mTT's investment in more running chairs and allow them to continue placing duo teams in races of all types for the joy of the many worthy participants they hope to serve over the years.
myTEAM TRIUMPH is a registered 501(c) charitable organization, and any donation is tax-deductible.
