BENEFITING: YMCA of Greater New York
ORGANIZER: YMCA of Greater New York
EVENT: 2017 Annual Campaign
As some of you know, beginning on June 18th, John and I will be riding our bikes across the United States. We will start in Astoria, Oregon by dipping the back wheel of our bikes in the Pacific, and will finish 3,653 miles and 50 days later in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by dipping our front wheel in the Atlantic. While this ride has been high on my bucket list, I wanted to use this journey across America to support New York City’s YMCA, and ensure that more teens in our city have access to the Y’s essential career and college programs.
New York City's YMCA, where I serve as a member of their Development Committee, has greater depth and breadth than most people imagine. Most people think of the YMCA as a place to swim or work out, but it is so much more. The Y offers many different pathways to achievement. I’m especially proud of the Y’s academic programs like Youth & Government, Teens Take the City, Rowe Scholars, and Leaders Club, which help high school students from every corner of New York City find the educational path to reach their fullest potential. These are just a few of the many programs that help to cultivate positive behaviors, promote healthier lifestyles, and advance educational achievement for thousands of teens across the five boroughs.
In a city as large and diverse as New York City, we need the Y to be an essential neighborhood resource for families and young people. Your generosity will make a significant difference. No other nonprofit organization can change so many lives, in so many ways, and in so many communities as the YMCA. As a friend, I hope that you will consider supporting my ride across the United States to benefit the YMCA’s work on behalf of the young people they serve.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
