BENEFITING: Artists Striving To End Poverty Inc
My dear friends,
I am beyond excited to announce that I have been asked to join Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) as a Volunteer Teaching Artist in India this spring!
This May I will spend 3 weeks at Shanti Bhavan, a residential school in rural India that provides education for children from India’s lowest castes who often would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend school at all. The school provides room, board, medical care and academics for students ages 4-18, and supports graduates throughout their college years as well. Shanti Bhavan aims to develop the whole child, so that these young people go on to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and overcome the stigmatization that comes with their caste association.
ASTEP partners with Shanti Bhavan to provide arts education in an effort to develop students’ social and emotional development. As an ASTEP Volunteer Teaching Artist, I will be part of the teaching team leading arts camp for students. During camp, students will step outside of their comfort zone, have fun, and develop their confidence, critical thinking, creative problem solving, communication and collaboration skills.
As a volunteer, I need your help to bring my art and passion to these eager students! Your donations will help to cover my airfare, travel insurance, visa, transportation to and from campus, necessary medicine and immunizations, and art supplies.
Every little bit helps!
$10 can cover the cost of supplies for one of my students for two weeks of classes
$25 can help offset my medical expenses to make sure I stay healthy abroad
$50 can help cover my transportation and ensure my safe travel to and from campus
$75 can provide notebooks for all students to take notes and journal about their experiences during camp
$100 can help secure my Indian Visa
$250 can significantly offset my airfare expense
As you donate, please keep the following in mind:
Any donation made via this website or via check to ASTEP (165 West 46th Street, Suite 1303, New York, NY 10036) with my name in the memo line is tax deductible and directly supports my work in India.
Any extra money that I fundraise will go to ASTEP to continue supporting their important work in transforming children’s lives with the arts.
Thank you! Your support means the world to me, and to my students-to-be!
