BENEFITING: Make-A-Wish America
On May 16, 2011, my mom, Laurie passed away after fighting a long and hard battle with cancer for 14 months. She was a vivacious woman who lived to touch as many lives as possible.
Several different times throughout her battle with cancer she voiced that she wanted to go to Italy. She wished to get away- travel- experience something other than NYU medical facilities. We, as a family, responded to these requests and told her that when she got better we would definitely take her away. Sadly, my mom never got to go away; we had always hoped the diagnosis would make a turn around, but unfortunately it didn’t.
Thinking of that situation and reflecting upon one of my mom’s greatest loves, children, made me think about the young lives that have life threatening medical conditions. I strongly feel their wishes should be fulfilled and they should have the opportunity to break away from the medical ailment that has been consuming them and their families.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting wishes and bringing joy to children for over 30 years. This has all been possible because of volunteers.
In honor of my mother and children fighting the toughest fight of their lives, I am urging family, friends, friends of my mom, and friends of friends to raise money and help in “sharing the power of a wish".
