BENEFITING: URBAN ASSEMBLY INC
Every summer, select students from Urban Assembly schools are chosen to attend The Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School Program. Phillips Exeter is one of the most prestigious, private residential school programs in the nation. The majority of Urban Assembly students who will attend have never been out of the city, have parents who have not graduated college or even high school, and are from neighborhoods where poverty levels are staggering.
“This summer, I learned how to depend on myself, how to manage my money so it will last the summer and how to put my school work first so I will have free time later. I feel more than ready to enter my Junior year.” –Shaina, Exeter Summer Program 2013, UA School for Law and Justice Class of 2015.
Many researchers have noted that low-income students spend significantly fewer hours learning outside of school than their middle-class peers and that this puts them at a great disadvantage. The opportunity to attend an academically rigorous summer program in a bucolic setting with an international population of students is a life-changing opportunity for our students.
Please consider donating to our Summer To Remember Campaign and give a low-income student the academic advantage needed for success in high school and beyond.
