In 2013, we lost my dad to cancer.
It was quick - from the time of his diagnosis to the morning he passed was a matter of weeks. By the time we found out about it, the medical team said there wasn't anything we could really do but make him comfortable. If it would have made a difference, we would have done whatever it took. We would have bankrupted everyone to keep him here and make him healthy. But I believe nobody should have to make that choice.
Far too many cancer patients are faced with unbearable choices because of the financial toll of the disease. Prevent eviction, or finish the next round of chemotherapy? Buy groceries for the family, or prescriptions for the patient? Keep the electricity on, or make sure there’s enough gas in the car to get to the next appointment? For many patients, the financial stress makes it harder (or impossible) for them to focus on what is most important: fighting the disease. That's where ACCF comes in.
Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation provides no-strings-attached grants to local cancer patients who are financially overwhelmed because of the disease. Grants can help with whatever they need most: rent, groceries, utilities, transporation, medical bills - whatever they need. And they help a patient know they are not alone in dealing with the stress and chaos that comes with a diagnosis.
ACCF's goal for 2017 is to provide grants to 1,000 patients and families; this is more than a 10% increase over last year. My goal for this campaign is to raise enough money to fund at least 2 of these grants. I hope you will help!
