EVENT DATE Nov 22, 2016

THE STORY:

UPDATE: Our van broke down and we have to rent another one to get to Standing Rock! We we're lucky enough to find an SUV last minute nearby BUT we need your help to pay for it. We have a WHOLE van full of winter gear, food and supplies for the Oceti Sakowin camp. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!

Our Plan

Our plan is simple. We will be collecting physical donations from folks in Atlanta, then driving to Standing Rock the week of Thanksgiving. Your monetary donations through this Crowdrise will help us acquire desperately needed necessities requested by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. We will be bringing our own personal winter camping gear which we will be offering to the camp for the harsh North Dakota weather. This includes coats, a heavy duty tent, sleeping pads/bags and other cold weather gear. While most will go towards supplies for the camp, a small amount of your donations will pay for our gas there and back.

This Crowdrise will be your way of contributing and supporting the Water Protectors. This is your way to get behind an effective action to show Atlanta’s solidarity for the inhumane treatment of our water, our people and our Mother Earth. You will be funding a group of four dedicated human activists ready to stand behind our brothers and sisters at Standing Rock.

Donations

As you know the people at Standing Rock need our help. We will be collecting physical donations from today until we depart early Thanksgiving week. We'll be accepting Crowdrise donations until the trip is over and anything extra will be donated directly to the camp.

Please if you can, donate one or more of the following items:

  • Canned foods
  • Sponges
  • Blankets
  • Tents (4 season only)
  • Cots
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Walkie talkies (long range)
  • Tarps and rope
  • Come along
  • Solar Powered Generators
  • Tolietries (incl. feminine products)
  • Nutrient-dense snacks (e.g. granola or lara bars)
  • Grains (incl. rice, beans, lentils, etc)
  • Sugar, potatoes, tortillas
  • Non-perishable Items
  • Drinking water
  • Toilet paper & paper towels

Except for rentals, just about everything we buy for this trip we will be donating to the camp.

Background

We’re all water protectors, defenders and warriors. In the last couple of months we’ve seen a group of protectors grow & raise awareness of the $3.8 billion pipeline that would carry out over 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota’s Bakken oilfield to Illinois. In addition, millions have funded the police state that’s protecting the banks and corporations behind this pipeline. This includes tanks, tear gas, guns, attack dogs, mace, and rubber bullets. Their goal is to fence off our native brothers & sisters from being in their sacred land with the intent to allow the construction to finish. A group of human rights activists who have been backing candidates Bernie Sanders & Jill Stein have heard the cry for help from our brothers and sisters protecting our land in North Dakota.

We know that the pipeline must NOT be built, and we understand that we must stand in solidarity and provide support.

Communication

Message us if you would like to donate, if you have items for us to take to Standing Rock. We can meet you. This Crowdrise will be our crowdfunding platform to get money donations from folks that would like to help us get to North Dakota. This site will be where we give updates on the trip, and give updates on our needs. Please contribute as much as you can. All of the money leftover will be donated to the camps that need funds.
