BENEFITING: The Atlantic Music Project, Inc.
The Atlanta Music Project (AMP) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization established in February 2010. Inspired by El Sistema, Venezuela’s nationwide system of youth orchestras, AMP is a 5-day-a-week, after-school orchestra and choir program targeting under-served youth in metropolitan Atlanta.
Through the great generosity of our donors, sponsors, and friends, AMP is able to provide the classes, curriculum, teachers and instruments to students at little to no charge. We successfully launched the orchestral music program on October 4th, 2010 after students completed an introductory African Drum and Dance residency. We hope to grow the program to 40 students for this pilot year of 2010-2011.
We believe the pursuit of musical excellence leads to the development confidence, creativity and ambition. We think that music can be an agent of social change; we are actively transforming the lives of at-risk youth by engaging them in community, teaching them the value of diligence and hardwork, and of course, growing in them instrumental and choral music skills. Through partnership with the City of Atlanta, The Atlanta Music Project runs Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:30pm at the Gilbert House.
