Atticus goes to New York
Organized by: Krys VanSlyke
We went to New York for the best treatment options. They gave us more time with our son and we are grateful for that, but the cancer started resisting even their more aggressive treatments. Atticus' dad had used up all his medical leave and no longer had a job by the time we came back to Phoenix.
We had begun another line of treatment here in town, but the cancer came back fast and aggressive. It took him from us on August 21, 2015.
We are so grateful for the support you provided which has allowed our family to be together during this impossible time. We are leaving this page up for those who have offered continued assistance. Our original plea is below. Thank you <3
Atticus is an awesome toddler boy who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer when he was 14 months old. The standard protocol of chemo and surgery were doing their part, but as the first phase of treatment was ending, scans detected new growth - which is really, really bad news. So he is going to New York to have the most and best options for treatment.
It will not be easy on the family. His mother and 6 and 7 year old sisters are devastated to be apart from him, but it wouldn't be easy to travel with his 3 month old brother either. We hope to have the family together, but for now just Atticus and his father are making the trip.
In addition to the cost of treatment, we now add transportation, food, and lodging in a very high cost of living city. Even wonderful places like the Ronald McDonald house do cost over $1k/month and won't take a family of 6.
We appreciate all the spiritual, emotional, practical, and financial support we receive from our amazing community.
